HOSTEL Rules
As amended on March 1, 2011

In order to make a stay at our HOSTEL a truly pleasant experience, our guests and visitors
as well as our employees are kindly requested to observe the following house rules:

  • I. Nighttime Peace, Public Policy and Security
    • Out of consideration for our other guests and our neighbors you are kindly requested to keep quiet at night in all the rooms, hallways, staircases and outside areas of our HOSTEL between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. Anyone who fails to keep the peace at night may be expelled from the HOSTEL immediately. We expect anyone to treat other guests, our neighbors and employees respectfully. Naturally, the obligation to keep especially quiet at night does not apply in the lounges of our HOSTEL.
    • It is imperative that the maximum elevator capacity be observed. We are not liable for damage caused by improper handling and any cost incurred therefrom shall be paid immediately and on the spot.
    • For safety reasons, it is not allowed to lean out of the windows, which may be opened only for ventilation. Do not sit on the window sills, do not throw anything out of the windows and do not shout from the windows! Climbing over outdoor railings is not permitted!
    • Our staff is present at the HOSTEL 24/7. They patrol the HOSTEL regularly at night.
  • II. Smoking, Alcohol, Other Drugs, Arms
    • As the HOSTEL KÖLN is a non-smoking establishment, smoking as well as any other way of dealing with fire in the rooms and public areas is strictly prohibited. However, smoking is permitted in designated areas outdoors.
    • We are not liable in the event a fire alarm is set off due to illicit smoking and/or any other dealing with fire or if smoke detectors are willfully manipulated. The costs incurred, e.g., in the form of an automatic fire brigade operation, shall be fully paid by the responsible person on the spot immediately.
    • Our guests and their visitors are strictly prohibited from bringing alcohol, any other drugs, illegal intoxicants, or arms into the HOSTEL. Any violation of this prohibition will result in immediate ejection from the HOSTEL without reimbursement of costs. In addition, the management of the HOSTEL reserves the right to confiscate for the duration of the stay any alcohol, other drugs, illegal intoxicants, or arms stored in the rooms and to notify the competent authorities without delay.
  • III. Emergency
    • In the event of an emergency you are requested to strictly comply with our HOSTEL employees' instructions and to comply with the applicable laws and regulations.
    • Fire prevention laws and regulations - please see the separate notice posted in the hallways - must be strictly observed. Please note the fire fighting plan and instructions on how to operate the fire extinguishers as well as the location of the escape routes. Please report any damage or malfunction immediately to our staff and/or the management of the HOSTEL.
    • A fire alarm is sounded as a loud acoustic signal. On hearing the fire alarm, do not return to your room! Do not use the elevators under any circumstances; use the staircases and emergency exit stairs only instead. Emergency exits may be used in case of an emergency only. Upon escaping from the building, the meeting point is in front of the HOSTEL.
  • IV. German Law for the Protection of Minors
    • The German Law for the Protection of Minors (Jugendschutzgesetz) is an integrated part of our HOSTEL Rules. All the guests, visitors and staff of HOSTEL KÖLN are kindly requested to observe the pertinent notes posted.
    • Persons accompanying groups as well as any adult and the employees of HOSTEL KÖLN are role models for our young guests. Therefore, we expressly ask these individuals to comply with our HOSTEL Rules, General Terms and Conditions and the German Law for the Protection of Minors.
    • If our guests wish to receive visitors at the HOSTEL, the latter are requested to sign in first at the reception desk. Persons not registered at the HOSTEL are absolutely not permitted to stay overnight.
  • V. Domestic Authority
    • The management of the HOSTEL holds domestic authority and exercises the HOSTEL Rules!
    • In the event of an emergency, the HOSTEL management reserves the right to enter the rooms in order to take appropriate action in exercising the HOSTEL Rules.
    • In the event of a violation of the HOSTEL Rules, our General Terms and Conditions, or repeat disregard of our staff's instructions, the HOSTEL management shall be authorized to take appropriate action in order to restore order (e.g., ejection without reimbursement of costs). Services already paid for shall not be reimbursed.
